2010 Mayoralty and Vice Mayor candidate in Cotabato City

Here are the the following candidates for Mayor in Cotabato City.

Mayor: Datu Bimbo Q. Sinsuat
Vice-Mayor : Datu Muslimin "Mus" Sema (incumbent Mayor)

Mayor: Guiapal "Jojo" Guiani (incumbent vice mayor)
Vice Mayor: Linda U. Ampatuan (incumbent Councilor)

Mayor: Bai Sendig Dilangalen (wife of Cong. Didagen "Digs" Dilangalen)
Vice Mayor: Atty. Anwar Malang (incumbent Councilor)

Our hopes for the development of this city will depend from these candidates. May we have a peaceful and orderly election this May 10 be it automated or manual in case PCOS machines would not function as expected.

Happy Eid'l Fitr from Cotabato

The past month of Ramadhan (in Hijri/Muslim calendar ) is another worth experience to me. Waking up early morning (2am - 3am) just to cook my food for Imsak (before dawn meal). I'm glad in a way I have survived this year's one month fasting without eating and drinking even touching my wife in daytime.

There were also times that I can't wake up to took my Imsak and continued fasting till Iftar (allowed to eat again after sunset) which make thinner now. During the Eid'l Fitr we will then again wake up morning to take a bath for the morning prayer. As ordered by Darul Ifta in Mindanao, the Eid'l Fitr prayer should be 7:00am. Also, praying in an outdoor during this prayer is more blessed because according to Hadith (saying of Prophet Mohammad S.A.W) angels goes down and spread blessings to all of those praying.

As part of the Muslim obligations during Ramadhan, we are also required to give Zakaat (charity to the poor, reverted to Islam, orphan or anything agreed by Darul Ifta to receive). I gave mine at Masjid Al-borhan last night before prayer time for Isha amounting equivalent to two and half kilos of rice we ate during fasting.

Right now, some Cotabateños go to beaches as their annual celebration of Eid'l Fitr. Until now, I still hear fireworks blasting once in a while.

I prayed for acceptance of fasting and prayers, forgiveness from Allah and to some people whom I think I've hurt directly or indirectly with my thoughts or words and in what I have done or failed to do.

Again, Happy Eid'l Fitr to all Muslims around the world. Till next Ramadhan, Inshallah.

Earthquake in Cotabato Sept 18 2009

A low intensity earthquake shake Cotabato City awhile ago for about 20 seconds. My wife and son was already in bed while earthquake was on-going. My son was already asleep to have his first experience with earthquake.

At any rate, I'm still thankful that the earthquake was not strong to damage properties and lives in general. I remember when I was in grade school, each time we experience earthquake we were brought out to an open field to make sure that we won't be hit by any materials that could fall to us.

Here's some precautionary measures from FEMA during earthquake


Stay as safe as possible during an earthquake. Be aware that some earthquakes are actually foreshocks and a larger earthquake might occur. Minimize your movements to a few steps to a nearby safe place and stay indoors until the shaking has stopped and you are sure exiting is safe.

If indoors


DROP to the ground; take COVER by getting under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture; and HOLD ON on until the shaking stops. If there isn’t a table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch in an inside corner of the building.
Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture.
Stay in bed if you are there when the earthquake strikes. Hold on and protect your head with a pillow, unless you are under a heavy light fixture that could fall. In that case, move to the nearest safe place.
Use a doorway for shelter only if it is in close proximity to you and if you know it is a strongly supported, loadbearing doorway.
Stay inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to a different location inside the building or try to leave.
Be aware that the electricity may go out or the sprinkler systems or fire alarms may turn on.
DO NOT use the elevators.

If outdoors


Stay there.
Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires.
Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops. The greatest danger exists directly outside buildings, at exits, and alongside exterior walls. Many of the 120 fatalities from the 1933 Long Beach earthquake occurred when people ran outside of buildings only to be killed by falling debris from collapsing walls. Ground movement during an earthquake is seldom the direct cause of death or injury. Most earthquake-related casualties result from collapsing walls, flying glass, and falling objects.

If in a moving vehicle

Stop as quickly as safety permits and stay in the vehicle. Avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses, and utility wires.
Proceed cautiously once the earthquake has stopped. Avoid roads, bridges, or ramps that might have been damaged by the earthquake.

If trapped under debris

Do not light a match.
Do not move about or kick up dust.
Cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing.
Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can locate you. Use a whistle if one is available. Shout only as a last resort. Shouting can cause you to inhale dangerous amounts of dust.

DFA passporting in Cotabato City


After the kidnapping, bombing and flood events in the city we are still fortunate because DFA Regional Consular Office has been opened last August 6, 2009 here in the City.

Inauguration was held at Cotabato City's People Palace. The event was attended by DFA Secretary Alberto Romulo and Cotabato City officials. Frankly, I just learned the news through my iGoogle feeds and you can read it here.




My expectations
  • Passport application will be easy and accessible to residents of Central Mindanao
  • Passport renewal will be much easier because I will apply for their Appointment System
  • More travelers
  • Traffic at Sinsuat Avenue
  • Lesser expenses to apply or renew my passport
  • No need to travel to Davao or Cagayan de Oro City

Who will benefits?
  • Of course me!
  • Residents of Central Mindanao

Might go swimming - flood hits Cotabato, Maguindanao and North Cotabato

As of today, North Bound entrance to Cotabato City is not passable anymore due to the flood occurs in Sultan Kudarat Municipality particularly at Salimbao. It's sad for us Cotabateños to experience this again. Last year around July, it was experienced in the city but it was not that worse and the cause was giant water lilies struck at Delta Bridge (proposed alternate bridge of Quirino Bridge when it will be under repair).

While monitoring at radio station, the anchorman mentioned that Jose Lim Sr. St is really impassable be it light or heavy vehicle. Since Jose Lim is impassable, that could only mean that the city can hardly get goods coming from North Cotabato, Maguindanao and even from Davao City. Although there's still South Bound highway which we can alternatively use.

It was also mentioned that the Pigcawayan, Alamada and some other municipalities in North Cotabato Province.

According to old folks, during the 60's, Cotabato have experienced a citywide flood and banca or boat was their mode transportation. May we not have that again.

Last year, the city seeks help for the victim of the flood and maybe this year we will start soliciting help once again. Hopes this event won't happen annually.

As of this posting: water in Supermarket area is up to knee while in downtown area, water got through the establishments.

Major establishments closed in Cotabato City

Today July 10, most of the establishments here in the city are closed as their act to condemn the kidnappings and the recent bombing happened here in Cotabato City.

As of today I have here the lists of the kidnapped. Note: Please comment if something missing.

To express the appeal of local businessmen they posted a streamers in front of their establishments. I have seen this streamers about 2-3 days ago but I didn't realized that they will come up with idea of closing their establishments.

At any rate, I am still hopeful that these kidnapping cases will end very soon. May we have a blessed city. I don't want to learned that this city is moving backward.

Tricycle broke in the middle of the street


Just sharing the tricycle that broke while traveling Don Rufino Alonzo St. in Cotabato City fronting Grand Rio Hotel.

Accident happened around 4PM today. No passengers were not hurt during the accident.
